#2 - JESUS REVEALED GOD’S WILL ON EARTH
Through Jesus’ earthly ministry, he revealed our Father’s will in all that He did. He revealed God’s love; He healed and delivered ALL who were oppressed of the devil. He taught how to love others. He challenged the legalistic, religious teaching of the leaders. He rebuked the political greed and hypocrisy of the Jewish leaders. He didn’t hide with His disciples inside the four walls of the temple or stay home. He went out to the people in society and sent His disciples out as well, to make a difference in the “real world.”
#3 - WHAT ABOUT US?
Often, when we have asked pastors to share with their congregations about important issues in society where there is a need for people to get involved, especially when it relates to elections, helping good candidates, attending city council and school board meetings, to help influence our local leaders, the typical response is “we focus on spiritual ministry.” Or a common response from other believers is “I will pray about it.”
But the “spiritual ministry” referred to is really only half of what our ministry should be. James 2:17 states: “So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” If our faith does not compel us to go out into the world to make a difference for the Kingdom of God, then perhaps OUR FAITH IS DEAD.
Of course, there are exceptions for those who are physically limited, but there will always be a way for each person to make a difference for Christ outside the church walls.
Our role is not only to share the Gospel message. Certainly, that is our primary call that we should pursue at every opportunity. But as salt and light in a dark world, we should also take every opportunity to make a difference in our school boards, city councils, county offices, finding ways to serve our veterans, with our first responders, teachers, legislators, and getting involved in our local political party which provides insight and clearer understanding of the inner workings of how to make an impact.
#4 - JUSTICE & RIGHTEOUSNESS
Justice and righteousness are the foundation of God’s throne (Psalm 89:14). The Old Testament prophets' primary and frequent rebuke from God against Israel’s leaders is that they were not standing for justice and righteousness. Eventually, this brought the destruction of Israel and Judah, and the people were exiled.
Is there injustice and/or unrighteousness in our society now? If so, how are pastors, Bible teachers, etc., training us to confront it and bring change? What can we, as the Church, do to make a difference?
Current statistics reveal only 51% of people of faith vote in elections. If we are to be salt and light to the world, is that okay? Some pastors, over the last many decades, have taught by either word or attitude that voting is not important. Too many need courage and are afraid to speak into current day issues regarding what the Bible says to their congregations. Afraid to discuss issues or candidates running for office. Too many remain silent.
A true leader will guide their sheep to be REAL salt and light in this dark world. This must include a practical focus against injustice and unrighteousness.

#5 - CHURCH & POLITICS
The word “politic” comes from the Greek word for “citizenry.” Being a citizen, means being involved in the affairs of our society and government. God blessed us with a government that is ruled by the people through our representatives. Those we elect should be representing us as their constituents, rather than their own agenda or what benefits them personally. If we are not involved, if we are not educated how the process works, then how do we hold our representatives accountable? |

To be honest, it is very easy for us to become discouraged when we see the greed and corruption in much of our political leadership, (both parties), but all the more reason we must be involved to make a difference.
#6 - HOW TO BE A CULTURAL MISSIONARY
Missionaries are not just the ones who travel overseas. We should all be a “cultural missionary” desiring to make a difference in society around us.
Important things we must learn to do.
- Learn the language of the culture! When overseas this is obvious. But in our society we need to learn to speak in the language of the audience to bring influence.
At our local city council meetings, there is a well-meaning Christian, who regularly signs up to address the council. But instead of addressing topics on the agenda asking intelligent questions or making reasonable challenges to their plans, he reads a few Bible verses to them. He isn’t speaking their “language.” We need to learn how to share from a biblical perspective in language relevant to the discussion of the meeting so they will pay attention.
- Partner with like-minded others. We can make a difference when we work together. One voice only makes a small sound. Many voices coming together create a greater sound and impact than a lone voice.
#7 – GET EDUCATED
